This Day in History - December 16, 1773 - American colonists dumped 350 chests of tea into Boston Harbor. Afterwards, Benjamin Franklin urged that the destroyed tea be paid for at a cost of about £9,000 (approx. $1.75 million in today's U.S. dollars).
