download e-books from the Library?

The Cimarron City Library has a growing collection of more than 11,000 e-books that you can check out for use on a variety of reading devices, such as the Kindle, Nook, and tablets including the Nexus, Kindle Fire, and the iPad. The process of checking out e-books and audiobooks will be different depending on the device you are using.

We have joined with several other Kansas libraries to bring you the best possible selection. Our collection is called the Sunflower eLibrary and you can find it from our homepage (click the Sunflower eLibrary logo). Many of the titles are available only to Cimarron patrons, so be sure and sign in to your account before you search.

These instructions will focus on our downloadable e-books, but the Sunflower eLibrary also includes audiobooks. Both formats are provided to the library through the software platform OverDrive.

Things to know:

  • Each brand of e-reader is different. Sometimes versions of the same brand are different. Make sure you’re downloading the right kind of file format for your device.
  • You can set your default lending period by going to Preferences in your Sunflower eLibrary account. Or you can select a lending period on a title-by-title basis. You can select a lending period of either 7 or 14 days.
  • You can check out up to 5 e-books or digital audiobooks at a time. When an item expires, it will be automatically returned and will no longer be viewable on your computer or e-reader. (You may need to manually delete the e-book from your computer or device after it has expired.)
  • Just like physical books, libraries own a limited number of copies of any given e-book. If all copies of the e-book you’re searching for have been checked out, you can place a hold on it.
  • You can read books from the Sunflower eLibrary on your computer, or on any tablet or device that has an Internet browser installed.

Where can I download e-books?

You can download e-books wherever you can access the Internet. You can use your home computer and move items via a USB cable, or you can download directly to your device if it is wifi-enabled. You can also use one of the computers available for patrons in the Library.
